yeah that's fair i can't say that going after a literal demon is on my immediate to-do list? like i can't guarantee that i won't end up tangling with her somewhere down the line because apparently i'm a trouble magnet, but i'm not going to go out of my way to chase her down
[You know what, she may look awkward, but Peter's phone totally just woke him up out of a nap. He looks like a dumpster fire, hair all over the place, his shirt's like somewhere on the other side of the room. So what does he do? Does he get his shit straightened up before answering? Of course not, because he's Peter Parker and he is a living disaster.]
Margaery, hey-- where's my shirt? Wh-- Uh. Hey, look, don't worry about it, okay? Like, it's fine. We all have bad days, y'know?
[Professionalism is not his strong suit, but Nate does his damnedest to scribe a boiler plate write-up that reads like something he might have issued from his office at the marine salvage company, as opposed to his usual informality.]
I'm heading up an expedition to the foothills of the mountain range in the next few days and looking for people with experience in excavation, long-term exploration, combat, and magic. I'm reaching out to you because I know you're proficient in at least one of these things, if not more, and I'm going to need all the help I can get.
It's a week out to the mountain range, maybe longer, and when we get there the intent is to locate and gain access to a bunker. With any luck we can learn something about this world we didn’t know before, and use it to our advantage.
This trip will be at least two weeks long. The weather is turning, snow is getting thick, and the temperatures will consistently be somewhere around freezing. Parts of this will suck. If you're interested, I need to know what you specifically can bring to the table in terms of survival and resources. Everyone's going to have to pitch in for shelter, food, and keeping watch, because we don't know what's out there.
Let me know as soon as you can. We leave at the first of the month.
[I mean let's be honest Peter probably actually literally squealed when he read this okay. The excitement is real. What a goddamn nerd.]
Dude did you type this whole thing on a phone??? Mad props.
Resource-wise I don't have a ton of stuff on hand. I can bring some blankets and just a buttload of anchovies (don't ask). Can always hit the shops to see what else I can grab.
Survival-wise, okay. I don't know if there's any way to say "hi I have superhuman spider powers" and not sound like an absolute madman, but that's where my journey through life has taken me I guess. I could carry literally all of our supplies and the entire expedition party if I had to, just sayin'. I've also got this like sixth sense??? I guess you could call it??????? basically like whenever something dangerous or whatever is around, I can feel it and since we'll be away from the gods and the city I won't have to worry about anything weird screwing with it.
I have a couple years of combat experience, which probably isn't much compared to most people around here? And all my techniques are totally self taught, but in my defense nobody's opened any Spider-Man dojos in New York yet so I'm just working with what I've got.
yeah and i'm not a great texter so you can imagine it sucked. i'll take this point by point because i'll be honest, there's a lot to unpack here:
1. bring what you need to keep warm, for daytime, and for sleeping. we've got enough tarps for tents. the anchovies might actually come in handy because all we've got right now are MREs
2. i kind of figured there was something weird about you after you told me you climbed skyscrapers, but i didn't want to ask? so it's nice to have confirmation. that's pretty cool [And terrifying. Jesus.] that sense might actually save our asses out here.
3. if you want to practice your right hook we'll be in the same company for about two weeks, but you sound like you've got a lot covered with your spider skills
[He's trying to keep it so casual but not gonna lie, he feels like it's obvious why he's reaching out so he wonders if he should even bother acting like it's not. Is that even more helpful? Is it more helpful to get to the point? If Peter were in his crew he'd just be like, "I'm a Pathfinder blah blah I have to know how my crew is doing" but this is different and somehow that makes this more difficult.
[Peter would normally be more suspicious of this sort of message. Not in a like bad way, but in an "ah god here comes the concerned adults time to be PERFECTLY FINE" sort of way. replying in text would, in theory, give him a chance to think up a really convincing reply, but his mind just isn't in the right place. Instead, he just types:]
[He doesn't want to be one of those adults but he's totally one of those adults, isn't he? He's only realizing this now as he squints heavily at that reply. Damn, when did this happen? When did he stop being the kid and become the adult? Even as a Pathfinder everyone treated him like a kid. When did this transformation occur???
It doesn't really matter. He's just trying to be delicate about this.]
well that's good. [He's not buying that but he's going to try and sort of pretend that he is.] still here to talk if you want, though.
